Action on Sugar

Beneath Sweetness: Sugar Art Exhibition

We are delighted to invite you to Beneath Sweetness, an art exhibition presented in collaboration with artist Lindsay Servian and the Centre for Public Health and Policy at Wolfson Institute for Population Health, Queen Mary University of London.

Do we truly understand sugar’s influence on our lives? What makes us eat so much of it? And in what ways is sugar hiding in plain sight?

Beneath Sweetness  is a contemporary art exhibition bringing together a series of artworks and sculptures that question the cultural, social and structural factors shaping our everyday relationships with sugar.

Taking place in the award-winning venue, the Neuron Pod, the exhibition invites visitors to reflect and share views prompted by what they encounter. Brief introductory remarks will be given by the artist and Dr Kawther Hashem, Head of Research and Impact and Senior Lecturer in Public Health Nutrition, after which there will be space for informal discussion and networking.

This free event is open to all members of the public, university staff, students and NGO partners.

  • Thursday 5th March 2026, 5-8pm
  • Neuron Pod, 4 Newark Street, QMUL Whitechapel Campus, London, E1 2AT
