AoS Comment: World Obesity Day

Published:

11th October 2017 is World Obesity Day!

The World Obesity Federation predicts that 2.7 billion adults worldwide will be overweight or obese by 2025 if we do not change current trends. Obesity is responsible for several non-communicable diseases including heart disease, diabetes, liver disease and many types of cancer. If we don't take urgent action to treat or prevent obesity, the annual global medical bill for treating the consequences of obesity is expected to reach US$1.2trillion by 2025.

Jenny Rosborough, Campaign Manager and Registered Nutritionist at Action on Sugar says: On World Obesity Day we need the government to take more action. We need a much more robust child obesity plan which includes a commitment to tackle the marketing of, and price promotions on, foods and drinks high in saturated fat, salt and sugar.
