Action on Sugar

Sugar Awareness Week 2022

Sugar Awareness Week: 14th - 20th November 2022

Breakfast provides us with a great opportunity to start our day consuming a variety of essential nutrients, but unfortunately, commercial breakfasts such as cereals, pancakes, jams, yogurts, pastries and even porridges are often high in free sugars. It’s time to highlight that we shouldn’t be sold a dessert for our first meal of the day

We will be using the week to:

  • Urge the food industry to reduce levels of sugar in the breakfast products they sell and provide healthier options
  • Encourage all schools and nurseries to offer low sugar, nourishing breakfast options
  • Promote some tasty breakfast recipes we can make at home

We will also take an in-depth look at what the future for nutrition policy could hold now that the Sugar Reduction Programme has come to an end and key initiatives such as the promotions and multi-buy restrictions have been delayed.

If you would like to get involved in Sugar Awareness Week 2022 we would love to hear from you. Please contact us: sugar@qmul.ac.uk
