Artifical sweeteners linked to weight gain, finds new research

Published:

A systematic review has found that evidence from randomised controlled trials (RCTs) shows that there is no effect of artificial sweeteners on body mass index (BMI), body composition or secondary outcomes, such as type 2 diabetes and hypertension. This does not support the intended use of sweeteners for weight management. Furthermore, observational data suggest that artificial sweeteners might be associated with an increased BMI.
