Action on Sugar

The Lancet - Obesity Report

Published:

Professor Graham MacGregor, Chair of Action on Sugar says:

"The Lancet findings  starkly illustrate this growing worldwide pandemic which is  caused by the global  food industry. They make very cheap  highly profitable foods that are packed full of hidden calories with huge and unnecessary amounts of sugar , fat and salt with only a transient .feeling of fullness and satiation. This  combined with brilliant marketing is unsurprisingly  making most of the world obese.

With projections showing that by 2025 the UK will have the highest levels of obese women in Europe (38%), now is the time for David Cameron to announce his long over due obesity strategy. He has a unique opportunity to produce a coherent, structured evidence-based plan based on our six key recommendations, which includes food and drink reformulation, to prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes and tooth decay. It’s a scandal that this national obesity tragedy is now a stark reality.”
